Our Story

A local, worth travelling for.

A proper Irish restaurant, in the heart of Naas

We opened on North Main Street at the end of 2022 with a simple idea: a restaurant the town could call its own. Ambitious cooking, a serious wine list, and none of the fuss.

Modern Irish food off the wood-fired grill, built on local produce and the seasons. A welcome that makes everyone feel like a regular.
Sunlit elegant dining room with neatly set tables, chairs, tall windows, and modern floor lamps.

Gareth Naughton.

Gareth runs the kitchen. An Irish chef with a modern, ingredient-led approach, he trained in some of Ireland's leading kitchens before earning national recognition at his own restaurant, Circa in Terenure, which was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

His cooking is rooted in strong produce, clean flavours and thoughtful technique, refined without unnecessary complication. Modern Irish at heart, it is built on seasonality and balance, and on food that is both ambitious and approachable.

At Neighbourhood, that means exceptional cooking in a relaxed, welcoming room, with a deep respect for Irish ingredients and a confident, contemporary style.

Frederic Pelanne

Frederic looks after the floor and cellar. Born in Bordeaux, he trained in catering and then in sommellerie, finishing fifth in the French youth sommelier championships in 1990. He spent ten years in England, designing his first wine list at twenty-one and learning his standards from fine restaurants and the people who ran them.

He moved to Ireland in 2000 and spent two years helping to restructure the Dublin institution La Stampa. In 2002 he joined Barry Canny at Peploe's, a partnership that lasted twenty-two years, Frederic moved on to join the team at Neighbourhood, in Naas.
